October Review

Power Rankings:

1. Mr. Momentum

Sits tied for second in the standings however undefeated on the season with wins over league leader ST, co-second place GIWI, and rival OR. Plagued by terrible goaltending for years, MM group of Rinne, Luongo, Lehtonen, and Halak have delivered league leading goaltending stats thus far. MM’s offense has been under-preforming however, perhaps feeling the loss of offensive catalyst Ilya Kovalchuk to “retirement”.

2. Stammer Time

League leader and defending champ ST has started off strong again this year. Despite suffering a loss in week 3 to MM, ST still boasts a record of 14-2 in his last 16 weeks. Amongst the leaders in both offensive and goaltending stats, ST has the deepest lineup in the league and is a major threat to repeat.

3. Getting Iggy With It

In one of the major surprises of the season, perennial bottom feeder GIWI has exploded out of the gate. His offensive stats in particular are blowing the rest of the league out of the water. If GIWI’s last place goaltending stats improve, they could be a force to be reckoned with. Words I never expected to type this season.

4. Girouxsome Twosome

For a team built for the present, GT has been decidedly average for a couple seasons now. A team that once posed the most formidable offense in league history, the current incarnation that sits last in offensive stats is a major disappointment. GT is probably still a playoff team however the fear this team once generated in their opponents is a distant memory.

5. Chance of Fleury’s

Last years Naveed Trophy “winner” have had a decent start to the season despite their poor record. Having the misfortune of playing streaking GIWI and defending champ ST to start the season, CoF faired better than many thought. While CoF can take away some positives the fact remains that since losing in the 2012 Hoover Bowl Finals CoF have one once in the last 14 weeks including 12 straight winless weeks.

6. Optimus Reim

Rough start to the season for OR. The curse of the Hoover Bowl finalist continues. Near the bottom of both offensive and goaltending stats OR is struggling in all aspects. It’s early in the season but OR needs to right the ship soon or it’s league leading playoff streak my be on the line.
