Week 19 Review

Power Rankings

1. Stammer Time – Last Week 1

8 weeks played, 8 matchup wins. This team officially has won more consecutive weeks than any team in league history with a 5-3 win over GT. With 3 weeks left in the season and two of the three matchups against non-playoff teams there is a real chance that ST could finish the regular season undefeated. The only question that remains is will this team be the 72 Dolphins or the 07 Patriots.

2. Mr. Momentum – Last Week 2

While this team hasn’t been as impressive as ST a close 5-4 loss to the league leaders remains their only blemish on the season. The main problem holding this team back is the underachievement of their goaltending core. Goalie keeper Pekka Rinne is as streaky as they come, the St. Louis Blues stifling D from last year is a distant memory and Halak is taking the brunt of the beating and Ryan Millers status as an elite goalie is now very much in question. If the goalies can put together a couple good weeks in the playoffs however MM could do some serious damage.

3. Girouxome Twosome – Last Week 3

A 5-3 loss to undefeated ST is nothing to scoff at but the nature of that loss is perhaps a little surprising. GT’s goalie crew performed well to split goalie stats with ST’s league leading crew however their offense was below average across the board and only managed to squeeze out the unpredictable GWG category. For a team that filled out every single FW slot before a single D or G more is expected.

4. Optimus Reim – Last Week 4

OR baaaaarely holds onto the fourth spot in the power rankings only due to my inability to justify moving them below GIWI when they won their matchup last week while GIWI lost theirs. Needless to say, however, OR’s 3-2 nail biter against COF losers of 6 straight was underwhelming at best. OR is now below average in a majority of stat categories and will need a good showing over the last 3 weeks to avoid facing ST in the first round.

5. Getting Iggy With It – Last Week 5

A hard fought 5-4 loss to MM marks the third consecutive week with a positive showing for GIWI. Their recent point “surge” has given them a little cushion over COF is the race to avoid The Naveed. A tough matchup against ST next week is a crucial test for GIWI as look look to play spoilers and avoid a second consecutive last place showing. They play the top 3 teams in the league the last three weeks so it will be a challenge.

6. Chance of Fleury’s – Last Week 6

A tight 3-2 loss to third place OR slowed the bleeding slightly for COF. They have still lost 6 consecutive matchups and are struggling across the board statistically. COF also does’t have and matchup against GIWI remaining therefore to avoid the franchises first last place finish they need some help. COF’s firm focus now, however, is on the Entry Draft in June as they look to make impact selections with their 4 draft picks.
