Week 18 Review

Power Rankings

1. Stammer Time – Last Week 1

With a 6-3 win over fellow contender OR that saw them put up record breaking goal and assist numbers, ST may have finally distanced themselves from the pack. Stammer Time’s offensive explosion resulted in records or near-records in every offensive category as well as an over 20 point advantage in combined goals and assists over the next closest team. Combining this with the fact that the team also has the top goaltending crew in the league and is still undefeated (7-0-0), the 2013 Hoover Bowl Championships could be considered theirs to lose.

2. Mr. Momentum – Last Week 2

With a tie for the second consecutive week and third overall MM is hoping to hold on to the second seed they currently occupy as they seemingly struggle to bury their opponents. Closing and inconsistency issues aside there are still plenty of positives to this team. They have still only lost once this season in a close battle against league leading ST and they are still in the upper half of most statistical categories. If this team ever has both the offensive and goaltending performances it’s capable of in the same week it would be a formidable sight.

3. Girouxsome Twosome – Last Week 4

The first mover of the week, GT slides up to third mostly due to OR’s struggles rather than due to a particularly strong performance against MM. While a 3-3 tie keeps GT within shouting distance of the top of the leaderboard it still does nothing to silence the questions as to why this team is not better. The chants of “dynasty” at the beginning of the year have been replaced by questions: Does this team still have multiple championship potential? Was last years team truly a team to build around or did they just catch fire at the right time? Was extensive mortgaging of future assets to “win now” a smart move or was it short sighted? Only time will tell, but needless to say it’s Hoover Bowl or bust for GM Mark Goodman and GT.

4. Optimus Reim – Last Week 3

A big loss against ST last week in a battle for first OR is starting to look exposed against the leagues elite. Though still in the thick of it in the points race, OR only has one win against a team above .500. They are beating the teams they are supposed to, which is keeping them near the top in a compacted season, however come playoff time GM Naveed Mazloum should be concerned as to his teams ability to compete with the big guns. In addition to OR’s poor record against teams above .500 their stats both offensive and goaltending are middle of the pack at best.

5. Getting Iggy With It – Last Week 6

GIWI moves out of last place in both power rankings and league standings for the first time in a full calendar year with a 7-1 beatdown over new basement dweller COF. With a tie against GT in week 17 as well, GIWI now has itself a little unbeaten streak going and, while improbable, a playoff spot is not completely out of the picture. A win this week against a quality opponent in MM would show that perhaps GIWI can hang with the big kids. That being said GIWI’s main goal at this point should be avoiding becoming the first consecutive Naveed Trophy “winner”

6. Chance of Fleury’s – Last Week 5

Well they still lead assists… Now that the positives are out of the way COF has fallen from Hoover Bowl Finalist to league doormat with an embarrassing 7-1 loss to GIWI. Since a 5-3 win in week two COF has lost every week and takes the mantle of last place from the team that had it for the last year. It is difficult to provide analysis as to this teams struggles as they are too numerous to name. With four weeks left against the 4 best teams in the league COF needs a minor miracle to avoid “winning” its first ever Naveed Trophy

Jay Onrait Fantasy Stars

1. Sidney Crosby (GIWI) – 2G, 9A, 3PPP, 0GWG, 9 Shots; In an 82 game schedule Crosby is on pace for an 140 point season, best player in the world… hands down

2. Chris Kunitz (ST) – 6G, 3A, 3PPP, 2GWG, 14 Shots; Further shows how amazing Crosby is, Scott Gomez would score 40 playing alongside Crosby

3. Ryan Getzlaf (GT) – 3G, 6A, 2PPP, 0GWG, 9 Shots; For a guy with a 8.25 million dollar contract even numbers this good could be considered not living up to his contract

4. P.K. Subban (GIWI) – 2G, 5A, 5PPP, 0GWG, 17 Shots; They should call him PP Subban (hilarious), the catalyst of the leagues 9th best powerplay

5. Matt Duchene (MM) – 4G, 3A, 3PPP, 1GWG, 13 Shots; With the last goal of the week Dutch got MM 4 extra points

James Duthie Fantasy Duds

4. Mikael Granlund (GIWI) – 1 Shot; The first two time member of the duds list, may be considered the leagues biggest disappointment so far

5. Teddy Purcell (OR) – 3 Shots; Tampa is a mess right now and Purcell isn’t helping with an abysmal week
